The Johnny Superpipe at Cardrona Alpine Resort will open tomorrow (Tuesday 9 July) morning. Weather dependant, the pipe will be opened for a couple of hours in the morning to start 'riding it in'. This will be the first super halfpipe to open in the Southern hemisphere.

Superpipes are built to international specifications for pro-events. The Superpipe dimensions will dwarf all other halfpipes with a transition in excess of five meters.

The Johnny Superpipe is being shaped using the new Kassbohrer Superpipe magician, brought in new this year to cater for the Super pipe.

The pipe will host several key events this year including the Burton Jam this Saturday and the Vodafone Junior World Snowboard Championships in early September.

"Boarders can be expected to flock to the resort tomorrow as the opening of the Superpipe has been eagerly awaited by many locals" said Nigel Kerr. "A superpipe with is larger transition is recognised as easier to ride and allows top riders to tackle a far greater range of tricks".
