BRITS SWEEP TO VICTORY

22 February 2002

The GB Women's Curling team yesterday took Britain's first Gold medal at the Winter Olympics since 1984.

The British team, led by skipper Rhona Martin, clinched the title and a place in history with the last stone of their final against Switzerland.

The win vindicated the BBC's policy of boring us stupid/forcing us to avoid their daily summary programme over the last fortnight, which has been packed with action from the curling arena.

However, it's no easy business winning an Olympic Gold and we congratulate them. Let's not go over the top though: Minister for Sport Richard Caborn pompously claimed "It's great news that the team will be bringing an Olympic gold back to the birthplace of the sport." Woohoo...we invented curling!

Err, I'll get me coat then...
