GREEN GOES 29TH IN GS

21 February 2002

(c) BBC Yesterday in Park City (21/2/02) Ross Green was Great Britain¹s sole contender in the Men¹s Giant Slalom event, offering the biggest field of any Alpine competition.

On new skis belonging to team mate Alain Baxter, Ross was a little tentative on his first run but improved on his start position of 48th to finish 42nd, 4 seconds off the first run pace set by Austrian Eberharter.

In the 2nd run Ross attacked to raise himself to 29th position in the finish area.

'I was relatively pleased with today¹s performance, although I should have attacked more on the first run. I was only 2 seconds off the pace in the 2nd. This is my first Olympics and the experience has been fantastic. I will take the top 30 and look forward to returning with this experience under my belt to Turin 2006.'

Bode Miller¹s 2nd run charge looked unstoppable for a while, but halfway leader Eberharter ruined the fairytale for the USA and took the Gold he has been seeking since the start of the Olympic Winter Games.
