5th PLACE FOR CHEMMY AT NZ CHAMPS

Todd HayworthFollowing Jenny Jones' success at the NZ Boarding Champs, one of Britain's most promising young skiers, Chemmy Alcott, took 5th place in the Womens GS at Cardrona yesterday.

Alcott was beaten by three members of the strong German national team and Australia’s best ranked woman, Zali Steggall.

There was little between the three Germans with Christiane Bauer in first place in 2.09.07, beating her teammates Stefanie Wolf who was second in 2.09.52 and Monika Bergmann third in 2.09.78. Zali Steggall took out 4th place ahead of Alcott. Current NZ national women’s champion Erika McLeod was 8th overall.

Jesse TeatA tight battle between the top seeds in the Mens’ GS at the National NZ Ski Racing Championships saw Wanaka’s Jesse Teat take the title. Twenty-three-year-old Teat was second fastest in both runs and headed off Bjoern Brand of Switzerland in a combined time of 2.07.60. Brand clocked 2.08.70 and Hannes Zirknitzer of Australia was third in 2.08.89.
