The Freeride, the first event of The World Heli Challenge kicked off yesterday in Mount Aspiring National Park in the South Island of New Zealand.

Observers advised that the event ran 'like clockwork' with five helicopters picking up the 68 competitors plus media, judges and officials and delivering them to Mount Gilbert.

The natural course was in perfect condition with 30cm of fresh on the floor, allowing competitors to showcase their acrobatic and free riding skills. Wind lips, cornices and purpose built jumps were all used to impress the judges.
