EXOTIC ADVENTURES IN THE SNOWY WORLD

Alpine Circus: A Skier's Exotic Adventures at the Snowy Edge of the World by Michael Finkel

This book has been recommended to us by several people recently (thanks to Duncan who spotted it first) and is perfect reading for Natives.

The author is a man after our own hearts - more than a decade spent travelling across six continents on a hunt for snow. The result?  Seventeen mesmerizing tales from the far reaches of China's Xinjiang province (where Finkel helps crazy Kazakhs master skis sent without instructions by the Chinese government), the late Shah's Iranian ski resorts or even the the remote Icelandic mountaintop reachable only aboard a homemade airplane powered by a snowmobile engine.

This is what some other readers have said:

'The weirder, the more unexpected, the less likely a ski slope is to be featured on ESPN, the more likely Finkel has skied there.'

'Look out for a great description of skiing on dry slopes in Britain, and a brilliant account of skiing on America's smallest slope.'
