Those not content with the excitement of the
slopes, can throw them-selves off a 40m-high platform, detach
themselves from a body harness and then ski or snowboard down
the slopes.
The bungy is the brainchild of outdoor enthusiasts James Urquhart, 28, and Aaron Ward, 27, who have spent most of their lives on ski slopes. "We came up with the bungy idea about two years ago and decided Mount Hutt was the perfect place for it," said Mt Urquhart. The bungy, on top of Kea Rock, in the Mount Hutt car park 1600m above sea level, is being marketed as the highest in New Zealand. The platform is attached to a 30-tonne counterweight. Thos brave enough to venture on to the platform, which juts 19.5m from the rock face, have the option of a regular bungy jump over snow, or to jump and then ski or snowboard down the mountain. Mr Urquhart admitted that walking on to the platform was nerve-wracking. "The platform is just a huge grate that snow can fall through, so when you step out on to it, it's a bit like walking on thin air, 40m above the ground." A basic jump will cost $99. To jump and then
ski out will cost $129. What do you think? Tell us on the Message Boards |
