| POWDER BUNGY JUMPING... |

Yes, the Kiwis have done it again. Another exciting addition to a day at Mt Hutt, is NZ's highest bungy, which will be securely 'anchored' onto Kea Rock. A cantilever-style platform will extend out 19m beyond the cliff face and the jump will be about 42m. Up to 66 brave skiers or boarders can be accommodated on the Mt Hutt Bungy platform at once, whilst they get psyched up for a powder landing. Aaron Ward, one of the team which is
running (and building) the spectacular bungy at Mt Hutt says:'Our
jump is the first ever bungy jump to be built in a ski area
in the Southern Hemisphere. And we've designed a structure
which will have the least impact on the environment. The only
100 tonne crane in the South Island is being used to manoeuvre
a digger into position to drill the foundations for the platform.
We intend to install the prefabricated, cantilever jump platform,
in May and be ready for the first customers at the start of
winter, in early June. Another reason why we feel it will be popular with Australians at Mt Hutt is it is in a very convenient location. A bungy jump at Mt Hutt doesn't interfere with anyone's day. You don't have to give up a day's skiing or boarding to fit a jump into a day on the mountain. 'We'll have an office in a convenient location where everyone registers (and pays $99NZ) and the usual added extras such as the picture, t-shirt or cap (to prove they were brave enough to jump), will be available for purchase.' Duncan Smith, General Manager nzski.com (owner and operator of Mt Hutt Ski Area) said:'The new bungy operation will add another exciting dimension to a visitor's mountain experience, so the ski area is happy to support it. The environment it's in, looking right across the Canterbury Plains, gives a great sense of height and scale.'
