It's now official - Mr Meribel 2001 is Ben the barman from Le Pub.

Ben was elected at Dicks Tea Bar last week in what has now become a classic Meribel night. As a prize, Ben won a bottle of Vodka and a week's holiday at the Hotel Le Roc (above La Taverne).

The evening commenced with the rather drunken compere 'Nigella' (shown below right), queen extraordinaire, announcing the panel of judges and the ten contestants rigorously selected from the thousands of applicants (or possibly the first ten blokes who could be persuaded to compete).

The six finalists started with a casual wear round followed by evening and formal wear, featuring a thoroughly debonair display of DJ's, cigarette holders and champagne bottles.

Unfortunately there was also a swimwear section, which burst to life as one of the judges, disgusted by this pitiful display of the male form, decided to put them all to shame (shown above). Apparently it was Ben's confident and even bellicose reaction at this stage that probably clinched him the title...
