'Maier doesn't win' shock!

American Daron Rahlves claimed the Super G gold medal today again thwarting a widely-anticipated Austrian victory.

As it was Rahlves snatched the top spot from Stefan Eberharter, rather than Hermann Maier, who finished in the bronze medal position.

For the American, who had spent the winter training with the Austrian squad, it was a victory to savour.

'It was really strange when I came down, it was so silent,' Rahlves said afterwards.

The Austrian fans, so accustomed to winning this season, must now wait until Friday for the Women's Combined for a chance of Gold.

Then, of course, there's the Men's Downhill on Saturday...the man they call the Herminator - he'll be back!
