MAIER WINS AND LOSES AT LAKE LOUISE

27 November 2000

Hermann Maier, the reigning World Cup overall champion and double Olympic gold medal-winner, won the first SuperG of the season at Lake Louise yesterday.

Austrian skiers took five of the top six places with only Lasse Kjus, of Norway, preventing a complete clean sweep.

The result was an improvement on Saturday's Downhill, where uncharacteristically and in poor conditions, Maier only managed to finish 15th, leaving his compatriot Stefan Eberharter to take the glory.
