CARDRONA BIG DAY OUT

23 August 2000

Yet another beautiful day in Cardrona saw Steve Fergusson (pictured) spin a grab on his way to first place in the ETA Ripples Big Day Out boarding competition held yesterday.

The 22m tabletop was the highlight of the day and with several hundred spectators looking on, a great way to finish the event. The morning's Northwave New Zealand Extreme event saw local Adam Dyck take on some narrow & steep lines to emerge the winner.

Back in the Cardrona pipes, the Monster really is living up to its name; Phat Albert is out for camps this week and the Wonderpark 2000 is apparently 'flying' really well. The 3 original huge hits have now been joined by 2 smaller jumps plus the funbox and 2 rail slides as the Wonderpark extends down towards the bottom of the double chair.

Weather Outlook and Snow Conditions
The outlook for the week ahead is for fine, cold weather all the way into the weekend. Cold overnight temperatures (-10°C) mean squeaky dry natural snow over the entire mountain. Off piste is about 5cm of very fast frost dried powder on a chalky base, great skiing & boarding.

The current snow base is between 60-120cm with 100% of trails and 100% of off-piste open. All lifts and facilities are operating.
