CARDRONA UPDATE

14 August 2000

[From Nigel Kerr at Cardrona]

Dry packed powder on the main runs which are being groomed every night. Off piste is wind affected new snow which is generally very chalky in nature. The snow conditions at the moment are being described by regulars as the best they have had the pleasure of ripping apart in several years. So it is good!

Current snow base is between 50-120cm with 100% of trails and 99% of off-piste open. Best snow is yet again in Captains while the double has been turning quite a few people on, especially with its easy access to Arcadia. All lifts and facilities are operating.

Captains Basin

Three pipes are shaped up but only two are open on rotation to the public daily due to camp bookings. The monster pipe has a huge pile of snow in it which will be pushed tonight and it will be cut tomorrow. It should join us on Thursday. The Wonderpark 2000 is 'flying' really well. Three HUGE hits are now open with fun box and two rail slides as the Wonderpark extends down towards the bottom of the double chair. Gravity cross track has been the site of a lot of action this week and is a really fun ride for skiers and boarders.

Looking ahead quite a bit on. Friday Second of the URGE Snowriders series (BX,SX) Saturday ETA Ripples Big Day out boarding with the New Zealand Extremes and Big Air Sunday New Zealand Freeskiing in the Arcadia chutes
