SNOW AT LAST IN NZ

28 July 2000

Hurrah! Snow at last for starved New Zealand. It's started off warm and wet but as temperatures fell, Treble Cone and other Southern resorts now have had a decent amount of snowfall in the last couple of days.

This report and picture comes from a cheerful Hetty Hale at Treble Cone, now looking forward to the RipCurl Heli Challenge coming up soon.

'There has been 20-30cm of fresh snow on the upper mountain over the past 2 days. The snow has been wind affected and we can expect some large pockets of dry winter snow. On the lower mountain there has been 5-10cm of fresh snow. With winter snow conditions skiing and riding both on and off piste is expected to be very good throughout the day. The Saddle Basin will be on hold until early mid morning as Heli-bombing is carried out.'
