NZ LOOKING GOOD

7 July 2000

Cardrona's latest halfpipe, the 'Super Rookie' opened today. The pipe is the third that Cardrona has opened already this season following the International pipe and the Johnny pipe.

Pipe at Cardrona

This picture shows the Super Rookie being shaped up by Kassbohrer cutting blade yesterday. On the snow is Jon Malcolm-Smith, 3 times NZ national snowboard champion and now head of Cardrona's pipe team. This pipe was rebuilt over summer and has gone from being a learners pipe to a full length ISF halfpipe. It is huge with the shaping attachment itself 3.5metres long!

Over at Treble Cone in the last week there's been 50cms of dry machine snow and good progress on the terrain park. Phase 1 of the park will be open this week and will include tabletops, tombstones, a spine, log slides, rail slides, berms and rollers. Over the last week several snow guns have been dedicated to the half pipe and this is now full of snow and ready to be shaped.
