Natives News 156

13 April 2006

Hi there,
Conditions are awesome; sun & powder make April just about the best time to be on the slopes. Yet things seems a little hollow here - last week one of the true icons of freeskiing died in an accident in La Grave. Doug Coombs was one of the few heroes of snowsports - an unassuming pioneer, who had more 1st descents in Alaska than the rest of the world put together. Another victim of the cold equations of life, but, to those who knew him, his legacy is an infectious sense of the joy of riding the mountain. Not a bad way to be remembered...
