How to...get a job with Inghams
Natives is the season workers website, and as such we want to give you the maximum assistance finding and getting your dream job. We've been out questioning companies and finding out what/who they're really looking for.
Fred Wakefield lets us know what Inghams are looking for..
Natives: What roles are you recruiting for?
Fred: Resort Managers, Hotel Managers, Head Chefs, Chalet Hosts
Natives: Which resorts are you recruiting for?
Fred:St Anton, Meribel, Zermatt, Val d’Isere
Natives: What makes a good CV?
Fred: 1 or 2 pages max. Clear and concise. no spelling mistakes. Most importantly tailor your job to the position you are applying so all the relevant or transferrable skills and experience jump off the page. The job of a cv is to get you an interview not tell us your life story.
Natives: What do you look for in a covering letter?
Fred:Anything that shows they know something about the job and company they are applying for. It is always a good idea to highlight your strongest relevant skill or previous job here
Natives: What would make a candidate stand out (in a good way) in their application?
Fred: Simple - having relevant or transferrable skills or experience for the job
Natives: What do you like candidates to wear for interview?
Fred: Something smart and professional. If you look like you couldn't be bothered to make an effort at interview you are never going to make an effort for our guests.
Natives: Do you have group interviews? If so, can you give an example of they type of activity you would do?
Fred:Yes. We ask candidates to complete a task before the interview and then present this to the group. They bake cakes, play games and lots of other fun stuff. We want the process to be enjoyable and the candidates to be able to relax and be themselves.
Natives: Do you conduct regional interviews?
Fred:Yes. We interview in Fleet, London, Bristol, Manchester, Nottingham and Manchester
Natives: What qualities do you look for in candidates?
Fred: Apart from having the technical skills to do their job we are looking for people who are going to make a difference to our guests' holiday. The best staff are those who love the mountains and love interacting with people.
Natives: How many seasons has your longest serving member of staff been with you?
Fred: 26 back to back winter and summer seasons
Natives: Funniest interview you’ve ever held?
Fred: Interviews are never boring because nerves make people do and say the weirdest things. We had one guy who farted constantly for a whole hour.
Natives: Complete no’s in an interview?
Fred:Swearing, not listening, bad attitude, trying to be too cool for school, not remembering which company the interview is for, not talking.
Natives: Best of times in resort?
Fred:The day the pistes closed on my 10th and final season. I was the last person down the Combe de Saulire accompanied by the pisteur and his rescue dog.
Natives: Worst of times in resort?
Fred: Any day it rains. Rubbish!
Natives: Top tips for getting the job?
Fred:Research and preparation. Know the job and the company you are applying for. On the day of the interview relax, enjoy the experience and be yourself.
Natives: Words of wisdom for time in resort?
Fred: Make the most of the opportunity to live and work in the mountains – it might be the only one you get. Get out of the bars and up the mountain every chance you have
