12 August 2010 12:10

Coronet PeakCoronet Peak looks set to host two major ski races following a last minute change of venue - something which resort staff believe could lead to more presitigious races being hosted in the area.

Continental Cup switch

The ski area will host two popular events in the Continental Cup race  - the Giant Slalom and Slalom, which will take place next Monday and Tuesday.

The event has been switched at the last minute from Mt Hotham. A spokesman for Coronet Peak, Richard Murphy, has revealed staff at the resort are 'stoked' to have the opportunity to host more high profile races following the successful Canadian International Ski Federation (FIS) race held last week.

Murphy believes the races "offer a real opportunity for world class race action to the teams training here".

He added, "This event will showcase Olympians and national team athletes from New Zealand and around the world."

Skiiers from around the world will take part, with teams expecting to make an impression including Canada, the USA, New Zealand and Slovenia.
