Olympics Team Skiing event explored

21 July 2010 11:30

Winter OlympicsFuture Winter Olympics could be set to benefit from a Team Skiing event - if the possibility is approved by the International Olympic Committee.

IOC explore options
The event will be put onto the IOC's agenda following discussions at the 47th annual International Ski Congress about the feasibility of the event. Officials believe the nation's team event, or NTE, could become a popular spectacle at future Olympics.

The nation's team event was launched at Bormio in 2005 and operates on a Parallel Giant Slalom format with mixed teams racing in a head-to-head format around gates.

Team events such as the Snowboard Cross and Ski Cross have proved increasingly popular with both spectators and TV audiences in recent years, and the Congress believe the event is ready for introduction on a worldwide scale.

NTE dates
Anybody interested in learning more about the NTE should put the following dates in their diary during the forthcoming season - 22 October in Solden (Austria), 16-20 March at Lenzerheide (Switzerland) for the finals, and further events will be held at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in February 2011.
