Jamie Nicolls sweeps the board at the Brits

01 April 2010 11:24

Jamie Nicolls swept the board at the Brits, taking home both gold in the SNO!zone Halfpipe and the Animal Slopestyle Championships. His haul of gold medals from the Brits takes his tally to 101 - pretty impressive for the 16-year-old from Bradford.

We caught up with Jamie after the halfpipe, here's what he had to say:

In the SNO!zone Halfpipe Championships, his run of a massive frontside air, backside 9 and back to back 7s clinched him the gold, while second place went to Dom Harington with a technical and stylish run including a backside 9, frontside 7, Haakon flip and backside rodeo. Third place went to Sam Callum, riding again just three months after shattering his pelvis.

Jamie NichollsNicholls (pictured right) was feeling pretty tired after the previous day's Big Air, which he came second in, but on seeing the pipe he decided to give it a go. It paid off - his winning run included the backside 9, which he'd only learnt in practice that morning - much to the mock annoyance of Dan Wakeham!

Bad weather swept in for Friday's Animal Slopestyle final and the judges made the call to shorten the course to the top rail section. This didn't deter Nicholls - he threw down a winning switch run, with a cab boardslide, switch up, 270 out, switch boardslide on the c-box, switch 50-50 switch front-flip on the box rail and finished with a cab wall ride.

Declan Power took second with a run including a 180 switch up on the kinked box and a backside lipslide on the top of the wall, while third went to Chris Kightley.

Nicholls said, "It feels pretty good to have won. The standard was really good this year and I won the halfpipe yesterday too, so I'm pretty stoked! I'm out there to get podiums now on European events - I've been getting closer this season at some big competitions so hopefully, next season, it'll all happen."
