Chamonix win back title After three years of success, Zermatt had to relinquish their crown, if by the closest possible margin. After the two resorts had both qualified for the final by winning their respective groups, the balance in the final swayed from one side to the other, with the team locked together at 6-6 after twelve heats. The decisive thirteenth head-to-head proved to be unlucky for Zermatt as Chamonix took their seventh race to win the day for the first year since 2006. The 21st edition of the Boss Third place was taken by Verbier, over Val d'Isere, who also won the plaudits for the most fans (five coaches had made the day trip) and the best fancy dress. Check the full gallery of pics here . The fifth/sixth play-off was won by Meribel, leaving Courchevel (who suffered by being two team members short) the honour of picking up the wooden spoon. Other highlights of the day included: - Verbier's off-piste Telemark demonstration from Hannu & Arksa through the trees. - Katie McInnes in a home-made pink lame bikini dancing with DJ Locust to the tunes of Corin, Jo & Magnus, while Johnny Tar accompanied on mic'ed up saxophone. - Captain Jeffers from Meribel head to head against Captain Graham from Val d'Isere - great bumps skiing by old pro's. - The twin wingsuit flyers and then Justin Hawkhurst on his wing making the fastest decent of the bumps course all day. - The Verbier Cheerleaders mobbing their 1950s gangster-attired snowboarder on securing a point. - Zermatt Michelin-starred chef serving profiterole and creme brulee in an attempt to bribe the judges. - Andy Bennett's corked seven at the end of his exhibition run (when the other team's final rider had been injured) - Guillaume from Meribel's enormous corked 540 after some of the best bumps skiing of the day. The day out of the season After a great day of entertainment on the hill, the five hundred strong crowd headed down to La Terrasse in the centre of town for a rave-style party, fueled by superb video mashups (including Thunderbirds, Star Trek, Eminem/Edit Piaf and The Streets/Elvis Presley) on the big screen. See you again for Boss XXII in 2011... Many thanks to Alpen Glow Events for the loan of their camera for the day! |
