Jenny Jones wins her third X Games gold medal

12 March 2010 15:32

Britain's Jenny Jones made it a hat-trick of X Games gold today when she won her third slopestyle gold medal in Tignes.

jenny Jones Completing the slopestyle course that at the beginning of the Games was causing a few problems for some of the athletes, she looked relaxed and tidy as she threw down a strong solid run including a backside 360, cab 540 and a mahoosive frontside 720.

For a while it looked like Kjersti Oestgaard Buaas was going to threaten Jones'  dominance - her ride was full of height and on the second run down she scored 82, putting her into gold. Buaas had hurt her shoulder though, and avoided the bottom rail as she was "scared of it".

Jenny Jones That wasn't the case with Jones however and she went hard and powerful over everything, much to the approval of all the Brits in the crowd. Jones later thanked the cheering, flag-waving supporters, and was doubly pleased to win gold in Tignes as she'd done her first season working as a chalet girl in Tignes Les Brev.

Buaas, Jones and Candrian After qualifying there were some grumbles about the state of the course and the length of it - six jumps in a slopestyle course at this level of competition was a first. But after the tweaks made to the course, it was much faster today and Buaas said she's not sure what she'll do now when there's only three or four jumps in a competition.

Jones' next challenge is to beat Buaas in a Champagne chugging match - Buaas beat her on their previous podium together, Jones is hoping she can score the double today.
