#1  What to pack/ do / get organised??  21 Oct '11 at 11:03
Hi all,

In a few weeks time I will be moving to the Alps for my first ski season. I am thinking I should be getting things organised/ buying things but I have no idea where to start. Any advice from the more experienced seasonnaires?

Cheers!

If you have a UK mobile contract, see if it can be postponed for a fiver a month. A lot of people pay more on their phone bill than they actually get paid, so don't get stung there.

Everything else, there's a 1000 similar threads if you scroll down.

That way you'll only need to get one of these.

With the hope of not sounding like an idiot, what's the point of an EHIC?

I have had one for a while, always had it on me when abroad, but never have used it when in doctors/hospital...

Well you go without if you feel it's worthless.

I have had experience of using one and it saved me a fair few quid. As it's free to get then why would you not get one?

It's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have one.

I am not saying its worthless just that i am confused when it should be used. Is it the case of the doctors possibly charging yourself if you don't show it, i.e. they don't make a habit of asking for it?

Don't forget to bring your gun, too. You might need it.

I was asked for mine but if you venture to the Doc's for anything then ask about the card and if it can or should be used.

Saved my quite alot of cash, which was nice. I also found that my gun got me a further discount.

hey racheyb,

Yes I agree with everyone here on the socks, they will go missing!

I made a list of 21 things to pack/ remember on my blog>>

I hope you find it useful.

unfortunately this thread occurs so often people get fed up giving the same answers

im doing my first season this year too - get stuck into the search function 'packing' / 'what to take' thers loads of good threads

could probably do with "the official packing thread" stickied somewhere...

from my extensive research i have created this top 5:

1. socks
2. condoms
3. socks
4. more socks
5. ugg boots

also tres val blog sounds good

Nothing like a chalet girl cliché! Ditch the ugg boots and go with a decent pair of waterproof snow boots....unless you want lovely wet cold feet and a wasted £200. They don't last, trust me!

yeah ugg boots are a bad idea unless you want them for indoors, seen a few sad faces over the years when they have been ruined by new year.

The blog above isn't far wrong.

A slight hijack as I have just been asked a question by a friend...

Phones - she has an unlocked iphone and was wondering if in France/ Swiss / Austria (her possible locations) is it possible to get a pay as you go micro sim for it?
Second: on the basis she couldn't will the new iMessage be free still? (its like BBM) if she had her english contract still.

Cheers for any advice and sorry for the slight hijack
