I think most of you have hit the nail on the head already. The focus of the site is totally on revenue, jobs listings etc - anyone who comes now doesn't have as much reason to stick around beyond signing up for job alerts. I can't comment as much because i'm not in the mountains as much, but from what i've noticed - Natives hasn't got the same community feel out there either. There are certainly less events both UK and resort.

As for me - i tend to pop in and read from time to time, but the day job is becoming a serious pull on my time at the moment - just finishing a 15 hour day. Hopefully i'll be back more frequently for snow time - when i've got to where i need to be with the business and can live in the mountains doing something fun.

Oh god. Snowheads has tickertapes along the top of their pages! There is *no* way I'll be using Snowheads then (unless I want a constant migraine - really, c'mon, tickertapes went out for a reason!). A new Facebook group might be the way forward. Thanks for 10 years of great banter, faces old and new.

Roders,

Congrats on the sprogging front.

I bet you are looking forward to 2033 when the offspring want to bugger off to the Alpes for a winter of drinking, sex, vomiting and general debauchery?

Anyone any idea on how these Facebook 'Group' thingies work?

Might be an idea for the NoF's, you know to sort of set up a 'worker co-operative' for the disenchanted and pedantic?

I rem....oh bugger it....

Techers,

I like the Facebook group as it might mean that at least the 'hard core' of the usual suspects will keep in touch and have a bit of banter, which is already happening.

Of course we will welcome any newbies and answer any questions with our combined knowledge, the Boggart and Mickers have over 40 years of Alpine experiences on their own and it would be a shame to let that go to waste! Besides where else could we recycle our "it's not a good these days as it was back in the '80's" stories?

Natives has had a complete dearth of Warrigals for a long time now, as I noted in a previous post. So come and join us on the 'Dark Side,' we already have 35 fine upstanding members*

I remain (a wheelchair bound)

Boggars

*Probably why most of the Natives youngsters think we are a bunch of pricks?

There are now 40 of us over on the dark Side of Facebook in the 'Natives Old Gits' group and in less than a week we've more posts than this place has had in the past month with subjects as varied as, 'Looking for a cheap hotel near Geneva Airport' to the back back-combing of pubic hair.

So if any of the usual suspects want to come and join us PM the Boggart for an invite.....you know it makes sense.

OK. Not sure why i'm posting this, no-one will read it really but:

A recent grad at work just recently got canned. In the pub I successfully convinced him to consider it an opportunity and to head off to the mountains for the winter. Oh and there was a good website he may find useful www.natives.co.uk

Which leads back here after a few years away to check out if i'm old and out of date and the website is now cack.

And it seems i am, and it is.

I've no particular beef with commercialisation. But at least do it well. This used to be a site packed with good information for budding seasonaires, run by people clearly passionate about all things snow. With a lively forum community. Now the homepage says it all.

A series of ads for expensive "instructor courses"
A "news" section consisting entirely of irrelevant ad posts (Samsung?).
Another series of ads this time for jobs.
Some half-arsed photos and videos at the bottom
And this is apparently the "Community Home" page

Sad.

No surprise to see the Forum dead too.

Not sure why but Natives had a slot advertised yesterday at the ski show to give a 45minute talk in everything you need to know about doing a ski season.

Members of the public sat and waiting with baited breath... But alas no one from Natives turned up.
