#1  London? Why oh why am I here??  28 Jul '05 at 20:10
I've just got shafted by an estate agent again...now I have 6 weeks to find somewhere overpriced and small to live. Where I am now I can walk to work saving travel but having carbon-who-knows-what forced down my lungs. OR I can live elsewhere and have the joy of the tube.

And it's loud. And full of weird people.

The only thing going for me here is my job. Which, I am beginning to wonder, is probably not enough.

People, please tell me why I am here?

:stupid:

Or is that me??

You are in London, because everyone should live in a city at least once.

You want to get out, because everyone should live in the country as well!

True true...I think my bank manager would have a fit if I went back to £75/week...though feck is it tempting!!! Hmm....perfect timing for it tho!

As you're both so helpful...how does one ask one's parents for a 'loan' to pay for a masters??

I financed mine through the EU. Certain courses can be funded by EU socail grants etc (tend to be vocational ones) & if you come from certain areas you can get additional funding! Bit of research needed on your part?

Either blag different banks to give you student accounts which is what I did to get through uni or ask the parents who will say no and then do a season. Mine said no but hey get to do a ski season now so every cloud...

From experience.... 'a masters is now more and more necessary as degrees are two-a-penny' therefore if you really want to progress within your desired field then essential!

Well thats what i told mine anyway!

But funding is defiantely the way foward, the nice people of Southampton Uni have just agreed that i deserve to be given a tasty lump sum to enable me to be a student again!

Hmm, the (admittedly basic) research I've done leads me to believe it's certain fields and full time that enable you to get grants.

Mine will be in Law, mind you it is a new-ish field, maybe I can ask the EU for some dosh..

A tad more research required methinks!

So, you're studying LAW and you need MONEY.

Simple: SUE your parents. Not only will you get money, and publicity (and lawyers like publicity), but you also get to practice what you are learning!
So, it's a win/win situation for you.

Now I have got a story, and believe me folks it's true
So if you listen for a while, I’ll tell my tale to you.
Now if you go to London, there's a thing you mustn't miss.
It’s quite a simple matter, all you have to do is this.
Go running round the fountains in Trafalgar Square

That's the thing that everybody's doing down there.
Just take a peep into the palace yard
You’ll find all the gates are locked and barred.
And the soldiers that should be on guard
Are running round the fountains in Trafalgar Square.

And then there’s Madam Tussauds, that’s a well-known waxworks show
Now that’s the place where all the country trippers like to go.
The figures that you heard about now they’re no longer there.
There's only one place you will find them, I will tell you, where

They're running round the fountains in Trafalgar Square
That's the thing that everybody's doing down there.
Henry the Eighth, chasing Anne Boleyn
Old Dr. Crippin looking haggard and thin.
And Charlie Peace with his old violin
Are running round the fountains in Trafalgar Square.

Now when I took a trip to London some few weeks ago
To see the house of Parliament, thought I’d like to go
The Speaker simply looked at me with such an icy stare
I said, "Where’s the others?" and he said "I’ll tell you where,
They’re running round the fountains in Trafalgar Square.

That's the thing that everybody's doing down there.
Lloyd George, Baldwin, and dear old Ramsey Mac
Early every morning you will find them on the track
With Lady Astor, June and Amy Johnson at the back
They’re running round the fountains in Trafalgar Square.

Running round the fountains in Trafalgar Square
That's the thing that everybody's doing down there.
The finest sport in all the land when you’ve tried it you’ll understand.
That’s why Jack Hylton and his band
Go running round the fountains in Trafalgar Square.

I think it was called the European Social Fund.

I knew saying 'law' would get me some sort of no-sympathy-you-dont-need-a-loan remark! Possibly a well deserved one however:

Yes, I need MONEY to study more LAW. And next year I will need even MORE money to study even MORE law.

Actually, I suppose I don't *need* to do a masters...but I want to, as I can specialise in a area of law I have more than a passing interest in, it's cheaper than re-training entirely.

Maybe in 5 years I won't need money. At least not to study. Maybe then once I've racked up an impressive student debt will I decide I don't want to spend another day in an office and I'll quit and run away to the mountains.

Cheers Kenzie, I'll check it out.
