I'm not sure at all what they gendarmes or the local police would make of it I'm afraid. There is a free car park just over the dam in Tignes-Les-Boisses thats outdoors but not sure what they think about living there. Theres a free bus that runs 24 hours (think it runs 24h) from Boisess up to Le Lac. You can also pay for outdoor parking in Val Claret but again not sure on the rules about living there. Sorry not a lot of help, try contacting the tourist office direct.

winter in tignes think you had better get the other glove, hat, gloves and an appartment for when it hits -25 which it does from time to time.

sorry but think you will a) Freeze your ass of
b) get moved on by the police to a paying camp site
Sorry but the don't tend to take kindly to people freezing in their region.

I knew (not biblically) a guy who did a whole season in a camper - he just moved around a bit. It was in Chamonix though so a whole valley of car parks to stop in. He'd park at the car park for whichever lift he was using that day.

Cold for sure - but those wood burners kick out a ton of heat so it might be bearable. I'd suggest a very good sleeping bag and those foil/insulated window covers for all the windows.

I'm gonna convert a van at some time in the near future and am probably going to insulate with http://www.tri-isosuper10.co.uk/ - It's used to insulate loft conversions and as far as I know it's pretty good at it. You need a bit of an air gap for it to work properly but anything is better than nothing.

If your van's not fully fitted you might want to have a crack with it too.

There's also a Super9 that I assume will be a bit cheaper.
Also web-dynamics thinsulex. http://www.webdynamics.co.uk/thinsulex.html is a similar product from another company.

Good luck with it if you go this route - I'd do it
Chamonix - gotta love it.
2008 season here I come!
