auto hibernating? Whats this?

I have done a number of role backs to previous restore points and it hasn't seem to have worked, i'm losing my teffer, so think since its snowing and raining together outside I will go through the pain or reinstalling everything, see what happens, don't think it can end up worse than it is now??? Can it?

Actually it did once, i ended up with two os running, and so many conflicts, one couldn't find my modem, the other couldn't find my sound card etc, not fun!
Happy is the man who can call today his own!

Your roll backs may be causing it!
Why are you doing them?

Hibernating...
Go to your control panel
Then the Power Options
Then the Hibernate tab

If you don't shut the computer down properly, i.e. by going to Start, then Shut Down, and doing a full shutdown, then the hibernate function means you could be writing big files to your disk.

Sounds like nuking it from orbit is the easiest way!

Back up all your personal data, and get firewall/anti virus stuff on a disc.

Install windows (including deleting old partitions and re-making them(with such a small disc I advise 1 partition of maximum size))

Install firewall + anti virus.

Connect to windows update and grab SP2 or whatever else you need. Often it will find adequate drivers for your sound and gfx too (even laptops)

Re-install apps.

Then head out to resort and leave the thing under your bed where it will gather dust for 5 months
