Ok so starting to get the bug to get back out to the Alps, however since my last season a coupla years back i've got into a career that i really enjoy, if only i coud do what i do here in the UK out in the Alps. So i'm wondering if there's anyone out there that is involved in the constuction industry out in the French Alps. I work in SI and foundation design so the market is there (but is probably cornered by local engineers), but was wondering if anyone in the know out there knows of any English construction companies/contractors who operate round there?

hey

im not sure exactly the situation but i would say that the french companies have a pretty good grasp of the construction industry over there. However, how is your french? I have a couple of friends who have got jobs with Bouyges (of mobile telephone fame, i think prob part of the same group) Construction, or sth similar. But i am pretty sure that your french would have to be fairly good to do that.

Alternatively i had another friend who did some labouring in Whistler last year, could be a possible alternative although im guessing the visa situation would make it more complicated to get a 'proper' job out there.

Hope this has not been totally useless to you!

Good luck

My French, although passable is not up to technical standard, basically what i'm after is a few English construction companies who may/ or may not want an english geotechnical company to do all the pre-build SI and foundation design. That way i can do the job i really enjoy and get to be in/regularly visit the alps. Its a little specialised i know, but sat at home on a friday night imagining what could be get the mind working overtime.
Infact whilst i'm dreaming, anyone out there want to put up 25k so i can start up my own niche company designing foundations for multi-million £ chalets.

If I was you, I'd get my French up to standard and then apply to Poma - most of their construction work takes place in the summer and your technical expertise sounds relevant. It might be worth talking to them to see if there's likely to be an opportunity there.
