My parents have offered to buy me some boots for my birthday- how nice of them. I'm hoping to do a season in my gap year (as in the next season), but my mum was talking to her friend who said many employers can get you free or very cheap equipment, including boots, that you can buy very cheaply at the end of season.

Is my Mum's friend right? I don't wanna spend so much money on boots only to find I could have got some for free during my season. I know it's important to get them fitted and everything, especially since I'll be using them so much, but should I just wait?

Thanksssss

p.s I've added a poll to see if you got yours on your season!

Reputable fitter in resort, Lockwoods in Leamington or Solutions4Feet in Bicester. Anything free is almost always going to be rubbish.

That's right. Chances are, the equipment you get will be old and worn out - that's why it's free. Otherwise there would be people willing to pay for it. Accept the offer and get yourself to a decent bootfitter, either now, just before you leave, or once you get there.

Ah brilliant thanks alot. Lockwoods is at the end of my road, so I'll wander down tomorrow

Should I be looking at bringing skis and stuff with me too?

What other 'stuff' is there to take? I'm pretty sure they can fit you a decent set of boots without checking out your hat and goggles.
