Hey guys!

Obviously it seems like Meribel and VT are the places to be (drinking wise!), but I was just wondering who is doing their seasons this year in the Courchevel Valley?

My season starts on 3rd December, in Le Praz, can't wait!

- Any tips from season professionals regarding packing, please feel free to advise!

Matt

I did a season in La Tania a few years ago. The best riding in the valley is probably over in Courch 1650. Make sure you eat at La Taiga at least once. Really amazing food and it's not crazy expensive.
As for what to take the most important thing for me is my laptop and if you don't have wifi where you live some dvds!
Enjoy the season!

Hey guys, cheers for your replies! 90 Litres? That's pretty small, but fair enough, will take that advice definitely.

Have skiied Courchevel before, really good. La Taiga, sounds like I'll have to give it a visit! How did you find travelling between resorts for nightlife?

90 litres plus few extras to fill out ski bag is normally what I take, and there are still t-shirts that I never wear.

Contrary to what most seasonnaires seem to think, France does indeed have washing machines (but drying racks on balconies doesn't work!).

I'll be up the hill living in 1850.

For getting between the levels, there is the free bus service that runs til after midnight. Here's a link to timetables. Actually last season, as not updated to 13/14 yet, but it changes very little year on year...http://www.latania.co.uk/resort/skibus.htm

Yup i'm 1650 this season. First season as well. I'm excited but these forums are so dead! Quite surprised, I hope they'll pick up soon.

90 Litres... hmm. Why 90 litres? You referring to the fact you can wash things? Haha!

90 litres is a pretty standard size for large holdalls/rucksacks.

Who you working for in 16?

I've known Matt your Bar Manager for a few years now, so I'll no doubt see you for a pint at some point in Rocky's.

Yeah, Matt is Bar Manager again, plus I think the Hotel Manager, Dave is also back.

Mutzig, Stella and Gothic. Decreasing in strength and price.

Must be good

Haha, nice I've always wanted to try Mutzig. Wonder what the staff discount will be!

Do seasonaires in Courchevel get the 3 Vallees pass?

Managers and Reps tend to, everyone else, not so much.

Depends a lot on the company you work for and your job role.

I'm quite surprised at that, is it because of time / money / experience?

I'm plongeur, and should have plenty of time, seems a waste not to get 3 vallees pass for what is effectively 20 weeks of skiing.

However, thinking about it, Courchevel has arguably the most challenging skiing overall and we're on the doorstep. Better to ski, than plan elaborate trips across the valleeez'!

Mainly down to cost.

Our Courchevel valley staff pass cost our company around €500 last season. (A normal season pass was €930). A 3V pass cost €1115.

For whatever reason, S3V, the lift company don't offer a 3V pass at a staff rate.

This season a Courchevel pass is €1000, and a 3V is €1190.

If you want to, you can upgrade your pass for a day at €31. We did this a few times for trips to the Folie or Ronnie.

As companies can't offer ski hosting in France this season, it will be interesting to see whether the Reps still get a 3V pass.

There has been a rumour of a staff rate 3V pass, but I've heard that particular rumour for the last 4 seasons.

Packing tips. I have many!

Roll up as many items of clothing as possible and pack them around your ski / snowboard in its bag. Put your ski / snowboard boots in a rucksack and carry it on as hand luggage along with your passport, phone, money and reading materials. In this way you can:

1) dodge the slEasy jet baggage allowance by putting most of it through as sports equipment
2) protect your skis from being bumped around
3)fill your actual suitcase up with the more fun / useful stuff on my list in this post:
