Hi all,

Does anyone have any idea how much a season pass will cost for Chamonix this season (05/06)?

If so, or have any information, could you please let me know

Many Thanks

James

Last year it was 670 euros for Chamski and 870 for mont blanc or annual. You can probably reckon on 10 or 20 euros more this year.

Most people just have Chamski. Unless you live in Les Houches or all your mates are getting Mont Blanc passes and you've got a car its probably not worth it, but does cover a lot of other good resorts near by.

Well, basically Les Houches is the worst skiing in the valley, but it is the best for bad weather days, as its got lots of trees and tends to be clearer anyway, being lower. It also has the Kandahar World cup for a weekend in Jan, which you would probably want to watch.

But the Mont Blanc pass doesn't just cover Les Houches and Chamonix, it also covers the whole of the Megeve area (about 450kms of runs) and some other smaller resorts, if you have a car then the closest parts of megeve network are only about half an hours drive from cham. And you can also ski down to Saint Gervais over the back of les houches.

If you are going to be skiing pretty much every day and you have a car, then it's probably well worth it. But most people in the valley will only have a chamski, so you'll probably be skiing with the wife only on those days.

if you're doing a season consider buying a 'workers' pass. It will you cost you only 250 euros. However it's not valid during the weekend or holiday periods. Still a better deal if you've got a job than those ridiculous expensive skipass...

Bear in mind that 'holiday period' is half of december most of february and a couple of weeks of march. If you then take out two days of all the remaining weeks the chamski pass is much better value.

However, as denniz says, if you're going to be working all weekends anyway it might be worth considering.

Guys,

Thanks v much for the advice....

I'm deffo going for either chamski or the full mont blanc-ker pass! You both obviously know the score in Chamonix - where is a good place to meet seasonaires - my wife is a bit panicky that we will get out there and not meet anyone as most people will be working full time and will have instant friends!!

Any advice greatly appreciated....

james.

Cham is a lot bigger than most resorts but it also has about 20 times as many bums, so you won't have a problem.

Bar 74 in Cham Sud has just opened and will be a real local's hangout, so a good place to start. Also try Vagabond and Derapage, both quite small Brit run bars where people tend to chat to all and sundry. Bar'd Up power hour probably pretty good too.

If all else fails I might go for a ski with you
