I'm an Australian with a UK working visa looking to spend the winter season in France. Anybody got any insights or experience as to any possible problems I may encounter. How do UK based companies feel about employing an Aussie for example, do you know anyone else that has done it before and how did they get on? Really appreciate any help, contacts and advice you can give........

Hey Widget,

I'm an Aussie who worked in Val d'Isere last season ... I'm lucky enough to have an EU passport so there was no problems for me but some of my mates with only a UK visa were able to get work too. Basically, no tour operator will hire you in the UK on an Aussie work visa. However, my company (Total/Esprit) hired two Aussies in resort last year who only had the standard 2-year UK work-visa.

So, if you've got the cash to survive for a few weeks until you pick up work you could just ship yourself off to the alps in late November and try your luck.

Major tour operators will have training weeks in larger resorts in late-november, it's worth just going from hotel to hotel, asking if they have any positions available.

Hope this info helps, we need more Aussies in the Alps.

Rubbish - the place is heaving with you marsupial types already.

Dino,
Of course the Aussies want to go to the Alps - other than the odd Swiss resort, there's no cricket.
