#1  Advice on starting a career in Resort Management  13 Oct '10 at 14:46
Hi all
I'm new here and I'm looking to see if a Career in Resort Hotel Management might be for me. So I'm eager to learn of your existence if you work in this sector.
I have been designing websites for the past 8 years and need to change. From what I can tell it might be something business minded so management in the resort sector comes to mind. Now I need to learn if its for me. I have a lot of experience dealing with running my own travel website http://landed.at which is not going to get me very far in Resort Management so I need retraianing as well.

I am looking perhaps at leroche or School of Hotel Management in Switzerland. They are not cheap (I'm too old I imagine for scholarships or any kind of aid) for a year but they do offer 6 months internship which coupled with 6 months intensive studies I would think might be the way forward.

I would like to know anyone who has done one of these diplomas to get the real perspective. Or other similar courses.

If anyone knows of any smaller resorts that may be interested in getting me as an intern for free I would also be interested in that providing they can house me at least otherwise for a season in ski resort is too expensive to live.

Thanks -

Don't confuse resort management with a tour operators resort manager, for one you will need half your brain removed.

What is it more exactly you are looking for? working for the mountain... ie lifts and stuff, the tourist office... marketing and stuff or something else.

"I am a very good skier...in my mind. However, video evidence suggests that I'm rubbish. I look like a bus driver in a primary-coloured anorak, sitting on an imaginary lavatory. Also I can only turn right. So to mask my embarrassment, and the pain in my thighs, I ski only when very drunk. I can recommend this wholeheartedly." Jeremy Clarkson
