OZ UPDATE: FROM GRAEME MARSH

28 July 2001

"Thats Jibbin' alright"

HMmmmmm, where to start??? Ok I have to be honest and say that the forecast and current conditions could be a lot better.....

Perisher's worst ever season was apparently just 91cms of snow: we have had that and there is no sign of any more significant snow to come...perhaps this is Mother Nature getting us back after dropping a whole world of the stuff last year ??

Perisher does however have the only halfpipe in Oz at present, with a huge amount of man made being used to put a half decent pipe together. It's about 9-10ft and an interesting ride....I braved it on my skis for the first time this season the other day and had a blast and it's a great activity for when the freeskiing isn't top notch....(Thanks to my Canadian pals from Fernie and Silver Star for the top tips BTW)

Cover on the ground is thin and very patchy and other resorts (particularly those in Victoria) are really sufferering with closure rumuors abound...

No chance of that here though although it has to be said the lack of snow is tough on all of us from a motivation point of view.....

Anyway it's not all that bad, town is still lively with Blizzard Dance party having been here this week, didn't get there myself, just couldn't face work after a night there (Where's my pipe and slippers ???)...

That's it for now, keep the faith for us out here...we need SNOW !!!!
