OZ UPDATE: LAYDS

13 July 2001

I've finally had a day off work and headed out on Monday to find some sweet powder out the back.

We built a nice kicker and had no visibility! Found myself halfway up it before I could even see it! But it's been heaps fun conditions. So I'm glad to report that there is untracked goodness out there - it's just not really found on the resort groomed runs!! You've gotta hike out and find it or duck under a few ropes here and there.

Since then we've still had alot of sleet and sago up the top of Thredbo, but conditions haven't really improved, with rain sadly washing away the good stuff. Still the mountain has been rather busy with kiddies on school holidays and interschool racing and training going on, meaning we're all keeping pretty busy.

Antons has finally been set to go, with the 'T's being put back on the line and maintenance working hard on it, however the cover's still too thin to open - cuz it'll be rutted out way too quickly if opened yet - but it's set for the next decent dump.

And we're all hoping that's soon of course! As soon as more of the mountain can be accessed more people'll be happy, as beginners and advanced riders and skiers are sometimes a little grumpy sharing the same runs!

***GOOD NEWS***

Thredbo are starting to get their act together for the boarders with some decent rails in the park area! There were some being used on Friday Flats earlier in the season, but they got confiscated and kickers were flattened. So we're all smiling again! so far we've got the return of the rainbow rail and a few straight ones. Let's hope the park get up and running soon too...

Catch ya soon,

Layds
