NZ UPDATE - NIGEL KERR

26 July 2001

The word on everyone's lips this week is snow.

Bucketloads fell around the country and Cardrona ended up with a fair share, topping up the base and providing superb skiing and riding conditions both on and off trail.

Conditions vary from dry packed on main runs to pockets of unpacked wind blown powder off trail.

It's been cool since that snow fall, so dress up warm looks to be the advice for the next while, as well as remember wax, on this snow you just won't slide without it!

This weekend is a real hummer. Tomorrow (Friday) the first of the Nature's Energy snowriderz series kicks off in a newly built up gravity course which is looking sweet. It's pride on the line, prizes come out in the final round August 23rd.

Over the weekend the K2 Snowboard Challenge will see Olympic hopefuls Julianne Bray, Dylan Butt and Deni Bevin in action in the Moro Monster pipe. Sunday they all hit a new 50 foot jump in the Wonderpark.

Monday finishes it off with the rescheduled Volkl Vertical Hoon from the summit to the bottom. Kind of like a Skier cross event, except the course is a bit wider and longer.

That's this week, looking ahead to a reasonable weekend forecast.
