NZ UPDATE: COLIN SLATER

17 September 2001

I decided to rid myself of my desk for 10 days and head off on the trail of some quality snow, sun and beer in jugs!

Mt Hutt was (at that time) very nice winter snow when everywhere else is spring! It was cold chalky nice stuff, it has since turned to spring hard/soft but is still very nice. The place is back to back and is a number one recommendation for spring. The South Face was peachy as was the South West. All good. Mt Olympus is right up there as well, the snow is stacked int here and its great spring corn.

Headed off down to Wanaka which was great as usual. Sadly TC was pretty poor. High snowline, very very warm at night and the snow is really suffering. The mountains not really in its best condition as when it gets fresh it rocks. Cardrona had fared a little better but again it was really
hot. Bummer. Also stopped in and had a few hours at Mt Dobson, love this field, when it gets fresh its really nice. Again good spring skiing all round.

Heading up North for a slide tomorrow when the weather clears. Is supposed to be good spring corn up there so hopefully that will truck along into November - cool.
