NZ UPDATE - NIGEL KERR

6 September 2001

Dry winter snow conditions on the upper mountain with light spring snow on the lower sunny aspects. Cold overnight temperatures have worked to the benefit of the snow pack generally.

Yesterday was certainly a memorable day with the mountain really turning it on. Current base is between 50cm - 1 metre + over the entire mountain. All terrain is open along with all lifts and facilities.

The weather outlook is pretty reasonable. Average weather tomorrow with sunny skies to return in full blue through the weekend. The last ten days have with few exceptions all been absolute pearlers.

The Wonderpark run is in fantastic condition and very popular with skiers and boarders alike. All the jumps have two take offs so you can tailor your aerial experience to suit your ability. Plus a bunch of rail slides and smaller obstacles. All 4 halfpipes are operational with Rookie open on a restricted basis as it is prepared for the Nationals and one pipe a day is on a late start (11am) to cater for camps.

Today the 'Blue Boarders' aka NZ Police Snowboard Club finish their championships in the boardercross course. Pictured this week was the great hope of the Wanaka team, Trevor Hewson in the GS yesterday. Its a light hearted start to a week that will finish with the Boost NZ Snowboard Nationals. Thursday kicks things off with a Parallel GS, Friday is Halfpipe and the event will conclude on Saturday with the Boardercross. This is followed by the Amarula NZ Ski Nationals next week starting Tuesday the 11th.

Hope to see you soon.
