NZ UPDATE - CHRIS LOFTUS |
4 July 2001 |
|
About 80% of Coronet Peak's slopes never receive sunlight so the sun can't get to work on the snow. The Remarks however is more or less constantly in the sun and this has been improving snow conditions considerably. The next two weeks are school winter holidays and the slopes are now echoing to the "wonderful" sound of kamikaze kids everywhere! The slopes and lifts are getting very, very busy so I think it's time for a trip north to Wanaka to check out the quieter slopes of Cardrona and Treble Cone. The very cold nights and crisp sunny days are forecast to continue for the short to mid term. As ever we could use some new snow - please!

The
snow of last week has held up well, allowing both Coronet
Peak and The Remarkables to open more lifts and runs.
Unfortunately, due to very low night time temps (-4
to -8 here in Queenstown) and only slightly better daytime
temps, the snow has become very hard packed and seriously
icy in places.
