NZ UPDATE - CHRIS LOFTUS |

Hutt is still enjoying the benefits of the 1.5m dump it received a couple of months ago. The cover is fantastic for this late in the season with all lifts operating and some great spring snow conditions to be enjoyed. The word is that this field will easily run through to late October and with the two fields in the North Island on Mt Ruapehu forecasting through to the first week in November there is still some great riding and skiing to be had down in this part of the world. Methven is the local town for Hutt and despite only having two pubs and not much else it has a good ski town vibe about it, when not on the slopes most people seem to live in the Blue Pub (the other one's called the Brown Pub!). This being New Zealand there is obviously an horrendous mountain road to go up and down every day but I guess I'm kind of used to it by now. It's snowboard exam time for me
this week so hopefully all those days of honing my technique
up on "Concrete Peak" will pay off.

Well
the slush and soil of Coronet Peak finally got too much
for me and last Sunday I left Queenstown after four
months and made the 450km drive north to Mount Hutt.
