Burton’s epic reputation did not fail to impress the hundreds of fans who turned up on Monday night to see the premiere of the latest Burton snowboarding movie. The tour encompasses 22 cities around the world including (fortunately for this Natives reporter) a screening at the beautiful Clapham Grand in London.
The film itself was well worth braving a cold UK winter’s evening for a Scooby Doo! But, this Burton premiere had the added bonus of rider-autographing session (Kelly Clark was there!), free prizes, free drinks, as well as the after-party. All this and entrance was free too!
Life as a Pro Rider - For Right or Wrong...
The film, called For Right or Wrong is produced by Mandalay Entertainment, and is an awesome compilation of impressions of what life would be like as a pro rider. This film is so much more than the usual collection of freestyle action or ‘snow porn’ as it has been aptly entitled!
Olympic footage...
With selective depiction of Burton’s cream of sponsored riders and featuring a huge amount of Olympic footage, the film focuses tightly around the achievements of the top riders, who all happen to be from the USA. If you love the likes of Shaun White, Keir Dillon and Kelly Clark, you’ll want to watch this film over and over again! It’s beautifully crafted and edited in a stylish and unfalteringly professional way. With huge rail hits, seriously impressive Big Air and backed up by some phenomenal half pipe action, the riding is more about quality than quantity and whilst you won’t see as much pure porn as some of the other movies on the market, For Right or Wrong’s narrative is powerful and its riders truly talented.
Words from the Founder...
Jake Burton, Founder and Chairman of Burton Snowboards has described the movie by saying "It's a perspective on our sport that has never been seen before." However, if you usually enjoy chilling with some music whilst watching shot after shot of impressive freestyle moves, then you might find that this is too wordy for you. "When we set out to create For Right or Wrong our vision was to show the variety in snowboarders' personalities, their riding styles and the terrain they ride - all from an insider's viewpoint," says Jake Burton.
Jeremy Jones sequences....
There’s some beautiful lines cut mainly by the epic Jeremy Jones who looks great in a bandanna: but we would prefer to see him in a lid as he hits rail after superb rail. The wall stunt is very amusing more for what doesn’t happen than what does. Jake Burton Carpenter even makes an appearance with his oldest son George alongside the select Burton team riders. "'For Right or Wrong' takes a good look at the different aspects of snowboarding," says Burton Global Team Rider Jeremy Jones, "There's great action and even better dialog - this film will crack you up."
Starring Jake Burton Carpenter, George Carpenter, David Carrier-Porcheron, Terje Haakonsen, Dave Downing, Mads Jonsson, Jeremy Jones and Nicolas Müller, the movie was filmed in Japan, New Zealand, Italy, Norway, Russia, California, Utah, Oregon, Colorado, New Jersey, Vermont, Minnesota and Alaska.
The Burton Movie Tour will also show "Guy in the Sky - The Process 5", a short snowboard action film that showcases the Burton Global Team.
