Rail comp hits Queenstown

26 July 2006 00:00

Freestyle snowboard and ski culture moves from the mountains and into the streets of Queenstown next Tuesday (01 August) for this year’s Parklife Invitational.

Box and rail features will be positioned on a 26 staircase feature for the event which has been a popular feature of Queenstown’s freestyle calendar for the past five years.

This year spectators can expect solid freestyle performances from the nine strong Parklife Rider team (a development and expression team of young riders and skiers based at The Remarkables).

“Local rider Chance Jensen will no doubt be stomping his tricks to defend his title while Jacob Koia, will be hoping to stay on his winning streak after his first place finish at Stolichnaya Expression Session in June,” said Josh Clark, organizer of the event.

Local DJs Sammy G, Downtown Brown and Raph Star will be pumping out the tunes with special guest MC Poara (lead singer of Shapeshifters) keeping the crowd informed throughout the night.

Following street closure and rail set up including trucking in snow from The Remarks, the Invitational kicks off with practice runs followed by heats and the finals from 1900.

A total cash prize pool of NZD5,000 is up for grabs plus prizes from Jägermeister, Forum, IS Design, Special Blend, Alta and Rawkus Worldwide.
