The Cadbury Moro Slopestyle series for freestylers gets underway next Monday, 24 July at The Remarkables and is set to feature a strong lineup of competitors.
Josh Clark, Youth Action Sports Co-ordinator said that members of the Parklife Rider team based at The Remarkables will take part in the event.
The Parklife Rider team includes experienced local riders Nick Hyne, Ted and Sam Hanna, Heath Patterson, Jeremy Thorns and Mark Anderson as well as a development squad of younger riders Jethro Mains, Mitch Clarke and Billy Lynes.
“Some of these athletes are among the strongest freestylers in the country and we can expect top performances from them throughout this series. We can also expect to see members of the development team take part and it’ll be great to watch them work their way up the ranks throughout the series.”
Now in its eighth year, the series involves four slopestyle events over four months to be held in the Up & Go Terrain Park. Josh says The Remarkables is regarded as the home of slopestyle and this series is fun and exciting for both competitors and spectators.
“Freestylers on snowboards or skis will use the terrain park features and rails as part of the slopestyle line. It’s a great event for spectators who can watch up to 70 competitors whilst enjoying an Aotearoa flavoured soundtrack.”
A cash and product prize pool valued at around $3000 is on offer for each of the four events of the series and competitors can expect the Up & Go Terrain Park to be in excellent condition.
“The park crew has been hard out working up new slopestyle features and making sure the park will be in top condition on Monday. I’m looking forward to a solid event.”
The Cadbury Moro Slopestyle series is a level two qualifying event for the New Zealand Snowboard Association National Championships to take place in September.
For those entering Monday’s competition, there is a $25 entry fee and a $20 fully refundable bib deposit. Registration takes place on the day at the The Remarkables terrain park office 0900–1030 with the competition kicking off at 1130
Prizegiving will take place at Tardis at 9:00pm, followed by the Queenstown premiere of this year’s hottest snowboard movie “One Love”.
